While trying to install or upgrade a CU on Exchange 2013, 2016 and 2019 you might have come across a simple issue as below.
Since the error says to reboot the system you simply reboot the system and wait for sometime till everything is settle down and run the setup again.
At the last stage again on the “Prerequisite Analysis” the same error appears which frustrates you and you might reboot the system again and find the same issue again and again.
This error occurs not because of an reboot pending of an previous installation but due to a registry key. This registry key gives this trouble and prevent you from installing or upgrading the exchange.
The simple solution for this would be browse to the below registry key and delete the specific key mentioned below.
Registry path – Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager
Delete the “PendingFileRenameOperations” key and retry the installation.
